Background Steve Jones Associates is the trading name for a consulting engineering business based around Steve Jones himself. He is able to network with other consultancies to provide a one stop shop for all sorts of engineering, scientific and management skills. Steve Jones’s track record includes some of the world’s most prestigious venue installations, including the original and new Wembley Stadium’s sound system, Tel Aviv Opera House, the Millennium Dome and the new grandstand at Ascot racecourse. His first business, BJ Auditorium Design, which opened in 1985, was a consulting engineering firm for sound & audio visual systems. Over the next 13 years projects included a diversity of clients such as Credit Suisse First Boston’s headquarters building in Canary Wharf, Allied Dunbar’s (now Zurich) Residential Training Centre for which BJAD were awarded the Civic Trust Award, and, most famously, the sound system for Wembley Stadium in 1989. The system for Wembley was the first in the world to be used by major touring pop concerts to augment their own equipment in the interests of reducing environmental noise. It was also the first to use digital audio distributed over fibre optic cables. Steve went on to design many more stadium sound systems, including the system for the new Wembley stadium. With a wide range of experience in the field of applied electronics and a reputation for innovative designs using leading edge technology, SJA brings a unique package of abilities to the sector. Altruistic Activities Expert on the committee FSH12/5 of BSI pertaining to the Code of Practice for Fire Detection and Alarm systems known as BS5839, and in particular, Part 8 – Voice Alarm, and also the European Standard EN54 (Fire Detection and Alarm). This committee also provides input to the IEC and ISO committees pertaining to the Standard for specification of Sound Systems for Emergency Purposes known as IEC60849 and ISO7240-16 and 19. Chairman of the Inter-Institution Working Group for the Code of practice for designing, specifying, maintaining and operating emergency sound systems at sports venues 1989-1992. Published in November 1996 as BS7827. Consultant in Sound & Acoustics for the Diocesan Advisory Committee for the Care of Churches in the Diocese of Canterbury. Consultant to the Professional Light And Sound Association (PLASA) for the establishment of an NVQ in audio and audio visual system installation. |
